Portland police state a medical cannabis delivery chauffeur was robbed while attempting to make a delivery Tuesday night; two similar crimes happened in Oct.
PORTLAND, Maine– Portland authorities are investigating an armed robbery and assault of a medical marijuana chauffeur that
happened Tuesday night in a car park on Forest Ave. According to cops, the delivery driver was attacked and robbed by 2 black guys armed with semi-automatic handguns while making a delivery at Wellesley Estates on Forest Ave. The break-in occurred at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, authorities say
. The driver said the suspects approached him from both sides of his lorry while aiming the weapons at him and required he turn over money. Then, when the motorist stated he didn’t have any cash, he was
struck in the head with one of the weapons. Authorities state one suspect then searched the victim’s pockets, taking a wallet and cash from previous shipments, while the 2nd suspect took a knapsack containing marijuana, marijuana items, and individual possessions from the car. Both suspects were last seen leaving on foot towards the Riverton Park housing complex, authorities state.
Portland cops say they are investigating two similar crimes that took place in October, one on Oct. 8 and another on Oct. 25. In all three cases, the suspects utilized online phone apps to request the shipment and offered chauffeurs’ licenses or medical cannabis cards that were taken to the delivery business. In two of the cases, the delivery address was not a valid address.
“Given the potential existence of big amounts of marijuana and/or cash, shipment motorists can be unsuspectingly targeted by criminals,” Chief Frank Clark said. “Portland Authorities will continue to work with legally running delivery business to address their security issues. We prompt drivers to not withstand throughout these criminal offenses. They should minimize the quantity of cash and cannabis items they have on hand and try to consult with prospective customers in public locations.”
- October 8, 2020, at 8:30 p.m. at 326 Auburn Street: The messenger was on foot and trying to find the address offered when he was approached by a youthful-looking black male who got the bag of marijuana and left.
- October 25, 2020, at 8:45 p.m. at 266 Danforth Street: Two topics in their early twenties were resting on the actions near the address of the shipment location and approached the chauffeur before he might leave his automobile. Among the subjects reached into the vehicle and tried to take a bag containing marijuana while the other subject assaulted the motorist. He was then attacked by the second suspect while the very first began to browse the automobile for more marijuana.
