PORTLAND, Maine– A gas line was struck on Warren Ave. in Portland on Monday during a continuous construction job. Warren Ave. from Riverside Street to Forest Ave. was closed to all through traffic Monday afternoon till the location might be deemed safe, Portland cops say.
Unitil, the Portland Fire Department, and Portland authorities are were on the scene “working to make the area safe and resume the roadway to traffic,” the City of Portland said in a Tweet.
The roadway was closed until the area was deemed safe. As of about 4 p.m. Monday afternoon, Warren Ave. was resumed to two-way traffic, and gas service had been restored.
The job will change the street’s existing corrugated metal storm drain system, which was inspected and figured out to be in requirement of replacement. The job is located from around 400 Warren Avenue to the intersection with Riverside Street. The Portland Water District is also changing their 20-inch water pipe within the job zone.
