Q & & A with Patrick Flavin
PGATOUR.COM talked to Korn Ferry Tour member Flavin, who was in certifying position before play was suspended Monday night. He would later on be removed in the five-for-two playoff Tuesday.
PGATOUR.COM: Today was tough, weather condition sensible, and scoring was high. When you kipped down a score of 70, did you believe you had a chance?
Flavin: The weather condition was nuts. We had hail, wind, rain, sun, we essentially had all of it. Then, understanding that with a lot of gamers that it wasn’t going to finish ’til Tuesday, it was simply an uncommon Monday qualifier. When I completed at 2 under, I didn’t think I actually had any opportunity. That said, I’ve made it through a number of Monday qualifiers and in both cases last year I didn’t think I was going to make it. You actually never ever understand what to expect. So, I was literally just sitting in my car watching ratings come in.
PGATOUR.COM: It’s constantly a little hectic when a Monday does not complete to organize a hotel, specifically when you’re ideal on edge of remaining in or out. What did you schedule tonight?
Flavin: Fortunately, I have a friend back in Scottsdale whose moms and dads live about 45 minutes far from the course. So, I called them, and they were nice enough to let me remain for the night. It is really good of them, and amazing to have a place to remain. I’ll hopefully get some sleep and then pack up and head back to the course early tomorrow early morning.
PGATOUR.COM: Do you mentally prepare yourself for a playoff, or do you now tell yourself your score will not hold up in order to take away some of the disappointment if it doesn’t?
Flavin: I constantly think it’s much better to enter thinking and preparing that you are going to play. Especially in this case, I would absolutely like to have a possibility to enter into a playoff. I believe there is no cooler, more amazing feeling than a Monday qualifier playoff. It’s so pressure-packed since it’s either get in or go house. I would like the opportunity. … Assuming I am going to play offers me the chance to psychologically get ready for that minute. That can also be tough if I do not make it, but I need to think what’s finest for me.
PGATOUR.COM: There is no live scoring at Monday qualifiers, and there are a great deal of gamers left on the course. Did you ask good friends still out there about whether anyone was playing well?
Flavin: The just person I talked with was Nick Hardy, one of my best friends. He texted me and said it was playing really tough and he ‘d be amazed if anyone beat two under. There are people that have 7 or so holes left, so you never ever know. In general, I attempt to keep away from that stuff; when I see scores posted, I’ll know. I’ll simply wait and see. Hanging out in the vehicle all day simply enjoying scores come in isn’t the most fun thing in the world, however it’s much better than not having any opportunity at all.
PGATOUR.COM: What is the strategy tomorrow early morning? Are you going to enjoy ratings can be found in from where you are remaining, or get to the course and watch them be available in live?Flavin: I am going to get
to the course quite early. I will arrive and talk to the guys running the occasion and see what they are believing as far as timing of the playoff, if there is one. I just like to be at the course and be prepared. In 2015 at the Waste Management Monday they told me a playoff would remain in thirty minutes and 10 minutes later they were calling us to the tee. It was a good lesson to be ready.PGATOUR.COM: Are you going to get any sleep tonight?Flavin: Yeah, I am actually tired.
Today was a grind with the weather condition, so I think I’ll sleep really great. Notes NOTABLE MISSES: Davis Riley 71, Sahith Theegala 72, Ricky Barnes 73, Josh Teater 75 COURSE INFO Bear Creek Golf Club, Par 72, 7,065 backyards, 75.3 ranking, 143 slope 2020-2021 SEASON MONDAY
