More Maine companies opting to stay closed as cases surge – WMTW Portland

With the coronavirus rising across Maine, some business owners in the state are deciding to close or stay closed.Arcadia National Bar is a bar and game in Portland that has been closed since mid-March.”The option was there for us to become a dining establishment– if we wished to alter out licenses– but we believed that was cheating the spirit of keeping individuals safe,” owner Dave Aceto said.Aceto is among a growing number of Maine businesses picking to remain closed, stating it is unworthy being open amid the uncertainty and recent boost in cases. “If you had a company in July and you weren’t open for safety seasons, then why would you be open at the height of the pandemic in Maine?” Aceto said.Like many organizations, there is no clear course for Aceto to resume anytime soon.”It’s a tough line we set on security which’s constantly going to be the concern for us,” Aceto stated, “We’re hoping that there is another round of aid from the federal government.”While Aceto has decided to keep his service closed, others are making changes in the middle of the most recent surge.Saco & & Biddeford Savings Bank has gone back all of its branches back to drive-thru only.
